Black Crowes Controversy :
In the March 2008 issue, Maxim published a review of the album Warpaint by The Black Crowes. As advance copies of the album were not made available, the band criticized Maxim for publishing a review without hearing the album. Maxim claims that the review was an "educated guess." Maxim wrote that the album "hasn’t left Chris Robinson and the gang much room for growth." The magazine's editor has since apologized, and suggested that the blurb should have been called a "preview" and not a "review."
